Mike is a founding member of Azumo and assisted in the early development of the business. He has 20 years of sales and marketing experience and leads business development, sales, marketing, and outside partnerships at Azumo. Prior to Azumo, Mike was a consultant for ZS Associates, a global sales and marketing consulting firm, and an engineer with 3M working on manufacturing, adhesives, and energy solutions. He holds an MBA in International Marketing from the Kellogg School of Management and Northwestern University and also received a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Mike is a devoted runner, enjoys coaching youth sports, and lives in Chicago with his wife and children.
Tony is a founding member and is the inventor of Azumo’s technology. He holds a PhD in optics and nano-fabrication from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and was a National Science Foundation Research Fellow. He has over 20 years in lightguide development with expertise ranging from optical design to micro/nano fabrication, system design, and manufacturing, as well as numerical simulation and mathematical modeling of systems. He previously worked as a research engineer in 3M’s Optical Systems Division and is a listed inventor on over 80 U.S. and foreign patents. He also holds a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
Shawn is a founding member of Azumo and has over 20 years of experience in finance, operations, logistics, risk management, and accounting. He manages all financial aspects of the business, internally and externally, and works closely with outside service providers and investors. Shawn is a registered CPA and was formerly a consultant for Ernst & Young in their tax division. He holds a MAcc and BA in accounting from the University of Wisconsin.
Mo leads the operation and production teams at Azumo, plus oversees the manufacturing, production engineering support, scheduling, and quality assurance. He works closely with our R&D and sales teams to support our growing customers along with engaging and managing our global supply chain. Mo has over 30 years of experience in electro-mechanical and specialty web converting with such companies as Dover Technologies, RotoMetrics, and is the previous owner of Solid Tooling Innovations. Mo was recognized by Crains Chicago Business as a Notable Executive of Color in Manufacturing in June 2022. (Congrats Mo!) He holds a BS in Business Operations and Accounting from DeVry Institute of Technology and lives in the Chicago suburbs with his wife and children.
Eric is the lead physicist and serves as the technical director for Azumo’s special projects (known as “Ghostworks”). He also works closely with external manufacturing, as well as our research partners. He has over 15 years of experience as a research engineer and is a former lecturer in photonics. Eric holds an MS in physics from the National Center for Excellence in Nanoscience at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.
Shirley comes to Azumo with 20 years of experience in marketing, sales, and business management in the specialty chemicals industry and electronic industry in Asia. She is currently driving business growth in the Chinese region for Azumo’s international front; specifically with LCD and other electronics and display customers, growing a local team, and representing Azumo with local partners in China. Prior to Azumo, she was responsible for developing and executing China’s strategy including fundraising, supply chain, and manufacturing partnerships at CLEARink. Before that position, she was the General Manager Asia at Lord Corporation, responsible for all commercial developments of elastomer, adhesive, and coating solutions in Automotive Assembly. Shirley has a BS in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from Fudan University.
David manages business development activities with OEM customers, RLCD manufacturers, and consumer electronic brands all throughout the Asia region. Prior to Azumo, David managed account relationships and business development activities with Foxconn, LG Display, and Samsung Display. He also brings over 30 years of sales operations, technical marketing, and application engineering experience. David holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University and is based in Taipei, Taiwan.
Andy is the lead fabrication expert and lamination expert here at Azumo. He also manages Azumo’s internal R&D equipment, clean room facilities, prototyping lab, and machine shop. He has over 20 years of high-quality fabrication experience working with mechanical and electrical systems. At Azumo, Andy appreciates being surrounded by innovative peers who encourage him to perform his best.
Areli is a crucial asset for all accounting functions at Azumo and financial reporting for management. She brings nearly 15 years of experience across multiple financial accounting functions. Areli attended DeVry University with a specialization in Accounting, and currently lives in Chicago with her husband.
Carlos manages all aspects of Azumo’s quality assurance program and brings over 12 years of experience working in QA at various roll-to-roll contract manufacturers. He currently holds a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma, has developed Azumo’s quality program, manages vendor audits, and leads our corrective action team to safeguard the quality of the products we produce at various facilities. He is currently attending Penn State University, majoring in business and accounting. Carlos wishes to travel to St. Lucia one day and currently resides in the Chicago suburbs with his wife and children.
As Azumo’s junior test software engineer, Dante is involved with the development and sustainability of the software for all test applications. He also manages all of Azumo’s internal IT to ensure everything runs smoothly. Dante enjoys the positive work atmosphere, flexibility, and all the knowledge he absorbs daily here at Azumo. He holds a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. In his free time, Dante is an avid musician, and plays percussion and drum instruments.
As the Sourcing & Program manager based in Shenzhen, Dave is in charge of all aspects China supplier chain and program management. He works closely with our technical teams sourcing components, managing vendor relationships, and consistently improving our quality inspection procedures. Dave joins the Azumo team with 10 plus years of experience in the LCM and Touch Panel industry. He is very familiar with the design & manufacture process of LCM & Touch Panels and has wide experience in problem solving of component assembly & device assembly. Dave graduated from North West Industry university.
As an integral member of Azumo’s R&D department, Dominick works on designing fixtures and processes to speed up prototyping and cut down lead times. Prior to Azumo, he worked on developing high-performance electric vehicle motors, gaining experience with precision winding and making fixtures. He is a problem solver and uses his experience to tackle any and all obstacles. Dominick holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Dominick grew up in Florida but now calls Chicago home where he enjoys bicycling, photography, and doing spur of the moment activities.
Edward comes to Azumo with over 12 years of experience in new product design, testing, root cause analysis, and end-user support. He also engaged with sales support and vendors in the LED lighting industry. As Azumo’s Test Engineer, he maintains and designs test equipment, automates testing & reporting, and performs optical measurements. Edward holds a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He hails from Ohio but calls Chicago home. Edward is passionate about all things electronic and adores small puppies.
Ernest has 8 years of experience in the consumer electronics industry and has extensive knowledge of display structure design, product management, and product development. As Azumo’s Display Engineer based in Asia, he will provide local technical support to customers in Asia and is committed to the research and development of LCD 2.0 and our front light technology. Ernest has an MS in Mechatronic Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China.
As product manager, Greg provides support to several departments at Azumo unifying engineering, sales, and marketing under a singular purpose. He has 20+ years of experience in cross functional leadership, product management, business development, and strategic account management. Day to day Greg is heavily energized by discovering customer needs, and bringing new and exciting solutions to the market. In his free time he enjoys coaching his sons sports, cooking, playing basketball, pickleball, and traveling with his wife and family.
Helena comes to Azumo with over 21 years of supply chain management experience. She manages all aspects of our material procurement process, manufacturing tooling and supplier management. She works closely with our production and engineering teams sourcing materials and components, managing vendor relationships, and is consistently improving our inventory management process along with incoming inspection procedures. She lives in the Chicago area and is an avid volunteer and foster for the Chicago English Bulldog Rescue.
Jami brings a diverse skill set to Azumo encompassing office management, graphic design, and assistance in marketing. As an office manager, Jami ensures the smooth functioning of day-to-day activites in the Chicago office. As a graphic designer, she combines her artistic talent with a deep understanding of branding and visual communication – leveraging her graphic design skills to create impactful promotional materials for marketing and sales enablement. Jami holds a B.A. in Communication and Media with a minor in Sociology from DePaul University. She resides in the Gold Coast area of Chicago with her partner and two cats. In her free time, she loves exploring chicago and trying new restaurants.
Jonathan is a key member of our in-house assembly team and manages all aspects of shipping and receiving for Azumo. He is very hands-on and also works closely with the R&D team during our new product development initiatives throughout the early concept and prototyping stages. Jonathan lives in the Chicago area and is a White Sox fan.
Jose leads all electrical design and embedded firmware development at Azumo. He also provides sales engineering support to customers for electrical and programming topics. Jose has over 9 years of experience in electronics design, prototyping, and troubleshooting.
Kevin manages the design and development of Azumo’s products and propels manufacturing engineering initiatives. He works jointly with many of Azumo’s contract manufacturers and vendors to implement production and supply chain improvements. Kevin oversees and contributes to prototype builds, quality investigations, and high-volume production designs. He has over 10 years of experience in mechanical design, analysis, and testing in various industries. Kevin holds a BS in engineering mechanics & astronautics and a Master’s in Engineering: Engineering Management from the University of Wisconsin. It’s no surprise that he’s a devoted Badger fan!
Margaret has over 20 years of experience when it comes to electrical manufacturing and brings her well-found knowledge to Azumo every day. In her position, it includes assembling a number of diversified units correctly in order to create products efficiently and accurately. She enjoys working on projects with team members to aid in the creation of the final product. Margaret lives in Chicago with her husband, 3 children, and 2 cats. She wishes to complete her college degree at Roosevelt University and receive her Bachelors of Science in Technology! (You can do it Margaret!)
About Margaret
Mike manufactures and prepares components for prototype builds and aids in the creation of the final demo to send to customers. He also helps with the framework of newer designs as well as machines to refine the process in its entirety. He appreciates the ability to be hands-on with his work, so he always puts his very best foot forward. Prior to Azumo, Mike was involved in automotive engineering and was also part of IIT’s maker space, which was designed to help students bring their ideas to life – exactly what made him interested in this specific field! Mike holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. In his free time, he is extremely involved in the camping world, and goes on the weekend when he’s not building electric vehicles!
Robin has been involved in the process development and manufacturing management of optical films in backlight modules for over 9 years. He is familiar with the whole process of optical film from product development to mass production. At Azumo, Robin works closely with our supply chain partners in Asia to validate the quality and continous improvement of process. Robin graduated from Xi’an Polytechnic University, majoring in Industrial Design. Currently he is studying for a masters degree in material science and engineering at Nanchang University. Although from Shaanxi, Robin has the same living habits and dialects of Sicuan Chongqing.
As one of Azumo’s Manufacturing Engineers, Zach is involved in creating and manufacturing demo products as well as prototyping newer designs and machines to improve processes. He appreciates having a small team where everyone is accounted for by the quality of the product that is created. He has always been captivated by electronic devices and is very passionate about making the world a more energy-efficient and environmentally conscious place. Zach holds a BS in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He isa Green Bay Packers fan and dreams of vacationing to Hawaii to learn how to surf.
